At Bharat Fishmate Private Limited, we are committed to reshaping the future of Indian aquaculture. With current production of around 20 million tons and the engagement of over 2.8 crore farmers, the fisheries sector plays a vital role in rural livelihoods and employment generation. The Government of India is actively promoting this sector through financial support, recognizing it as a “sunrise sector,” and has set an ambitious target of achieving 40 million tons of production by 2047 under the Viksit Bharat Vision.

Despite this strong push and immense potential, farmers are unable to achieve optimal production due to two critical gaps. Firstly, there is no structured system to access certified fish seed. Secondly, farmers lack scientific knowledge and continuous handholding support during the farming cycle. These challenges result in 30% to 40% production losses, leading to an estimated ₹1 lakh crore loss across the fisheries value chain.

Who We Are

Bharat Fishmate is building an e-marketplace to supply quality-tested, certified fish seed sourced from SOP-approved hatcheries and rearing units. In addition, we provide data-driven, subscription-based advisory services, along with AI-powered alerts on disease detection, climate changes, and fish mandi prices through our FISHMATE mobile application.

Founded in 2024, Bharat Fishmate is incubated at the Agri Food Business Incubation Centre at IIT Kharagpur, IVRI-Pusa Krishi, the Agri Business Incubation Foundation at IIT Kharagpur, and IIM Calcutta Innovation Park. We are creating a scalable, asset-light, and impact-driven platform for India’s inland fish farmers. The company is a DPIIT-registered agritech startup focused on transforming India’s fragmented fisheries ecosystem through quality fish seed and scientifically backed advisory services. We are standardizing hatchery practices and building a data-driven support platform to ensure trust, quality, and efficiency across the aquaculture value chain.
